Discover the New Wave: A Discussion with the Leaders of 'Get Use to It' Movement

Monsoon Staraw/Spillah/Young Rico/Chicago GoGetter Season 8 Episode 178

Ever wondered how three self-taught musicians shaped their unique sound and formed a movement that's taking the music scene by storm? Today, we had the pleasure of sitting down with Spillah, Young Rico, and Chicago GoGetter, the architects of the 'Get Used to It' movement. They poured out their hearts, sharing their voyage of self-education in the music industry, their inspirations, evolving relationships, and their endeavours to create a bigger platform for Chicago artists.

We didn't shy away from tough topics either. We dug into the intricacies of maintaining integrity in non-traditional relationships and the surprising value of learning from disagreements. What about the role of social media in today’s world? Yes, we covered that too. And let's not forget the need for female artists to not just fit into the mold created by the male-dominated industry but to create content authentic to their experiences, and the incredible power of female collaborations.

As we rounded up, we reemphasized our belief in the power of collective habit formation in the music industry and the importance of building fans, not just followers. We discussed the need to trust the process, to stay committed to your dreams, and the magic of the studio that has enabled Spillah, Young Rico, and Chicago GoGetter to share their stories with the world. Tune in for the raw, real, and reliable, as we journey through the world of the 'Get Used to It' movement.

Speaker 2:

Man, man, we've been in ups and downs. You know what I'm saying, like usual. You know what I'm saying. I'm not going to throw a roller coaster, but we've been keeping busy.

Speaker 5:

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

Focus. You know what I'm saying Doing what we got to do. You know what I'm saying Preparing for these releases.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying Preparing for these releases and doing what we got to do man and bringing what we bring to the world.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

That is. That is so. My first question is this when y'all from?

Speaker 2:

Man, we are from the crib. You know what I'm saying but me myself, from Southside, you know what I'm saying. 79 for National.

Speaker 4:

Southside Harvey Whirl, crazy uptown. Okay, we're in.

Speaker 1:

Pakistan, you over East, yeah All right, how did y'all link up?

Speaker 2:

Well, man, you know what I'm saying. I've been doing my thing for a minute. Man, you know what I'm saying. I started this, get Used to a. Thing pretty much a decade ago. You know what I'm saying Officially, yeah.

Speaker 5:

But I've been rhyming for a long time but yeah, man, I started Get Used to a Thing like I said officially about a decade ago and I've been doing my thing.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying Out here on my own.

Speaker 6:

You know what I'm saying Just you know, staying focused and just grinding. You know what I'm saying Cool, cool Cool.

Speaker 2:

Pretty much teaching myself, yeah, and along the way how to do a lot of things like man, just for myself, because you know, in this industry a lot of things take money.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, everything take money.

Speaker 2:

Everything you know what I'm saying when they come to beats and come to videos all of that. So yeah, I kind of taught myself to do a lot of things on my own.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

So that I can, you know, cut the middleman out. There, you go and you know, keep it going. So, but along that man, I ended up coming along meeting these guys along the way man. You know, they pretty much just saw the same vision. You know what I'm saying. And we all, like I say, we all see the same picture. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

That's good the same thing.

Speaker 2:

These brothers are stand up brothers. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 5:

So, they chose to come. You know what?

Speaker 2:

I'm saying they chose to come along and we've been doing this, get Used to a Thing man, probably for the last year together.

Speaker 1:

Okay, okay, so um Rico right.

Speaker 5:

Who, who influences.

Speaker 1:

Who influences Rico?

Speaker 4:

My kids, man, you know my kids. They influence me, you know is there any?

Speaker 1:

is there any artists that you listen to that made you say I want to. I want to get into this round with them.

Speaker 4:

I always been a hip hop head. You know what I'm saying. There you go. I've always been a hip hop head man, so I grew up listening to the Nas, the JZ, the DMX. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Right fellow.

Speaker 5:

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4:

Telling stories. Biggies and Tupac. You know what I'm saying I always had a vision for music as a shorty you know what I'm saying so that's where it really stands. Sorry for you, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Chicago Getter. What about you? Who, who, who, who? You listening to that made that said the name right, right, okay, who was who you listening to? That made you say man, I want to, I want to rhyme, man, it was all Chicago legends. It was like Twisters Psycho Drama. It was Crucial Conflict.

Speaker 5:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying Snipers.

Speaker 5:

Okay, you know, yeah, no.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay, okay, okay. Hey, I'm in my bag, spell up.

Speaker 2:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1:

Who, who, who? You listening to that made you feel like I want to. I want to rhyme.

Speaker 2:

Well, who officially got me like, into like, wanting to rhyme and like, with rhyme, scheming and everything?

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Bontas and harmony. Hey, oh, it's not even that, my nigga.

Speaker 5:

Like I'm just keeping it 100.

Speaker 2:

Like when they drop. You know what I'm saying and I was like I'm like they bringing a different flavor to the game, okay, and that's something that I kind of like gravitated towards you know what I'm saying? Yeah, as I continued to you know what I'm saying. Started creating music. You know what I'm saying. I got into everybody. You know what I'm saying. And then I really took a liking in the Jay-Z.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

And the big homies you know what I'm saying and Nas, like I say Eminem, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

All of them. You know the lyrical cats you know.

Speaker 1:

That's what's up. That's a good side for sure, Okay. So my next question is this so y'all individuals, but y'all came together as a collective to form get used to it. Why get used to it?

Speaker 2:

Man, because that's what it is. Get used to it is. Is is something that's broad. You know what I'm saying? It's general. It could be put anywhere, any place. Anybody could represent it, no matter what you do.

Speaker 1:

Okay, but else as artists.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5:

We just pretty much making you get used to us as artists and what we're doing and what we bring into the table.

Speaker 2:

But you could be a doctor you know what I'm saying? Tell somebody to get used to how cold I am as a doctor. Yeah, yeah, you know what I'm saying so straight up. I'm saying it's something that's you know, brought to the world so anybody could get used to it. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1:

That's why we make the whole world say get used to it. I say this much, man. So my first time seeing y'all was at the Hatterway last Sunday and one of the things that really made me gravitate to what y'all was doing, man, was the performance. You see what I'm saying, the performance. Y'all wasn't rapping over y'all vocals. You know what I'm saying, man, rico was on point when you was rhyming. You was on point when Rico was rhyming. I was like man. To me that's like the essence of hip hop. You know what I'm saying. Because it's like.

Speaker 1:

And then it was like I noticed the crowd. They was like, even if they didn't know you, they was like I want to hear what these niggas talking about. You know what I'm saying. So I think like that's why I always tell people man, make fans, not followers. You see what I'm saying, because followers can get you clout but fans can get you work. So I'm listening to it, I'm listening to it. And then the other thing was the delivery of the lyrics man and the bars. I'm like I can hear it.

Speaker 1:

Like these niggas is audible. You know what I'm saying, I appreciate that Mike.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, so it's like man so that's.

Speaker 1:

I mean like. So let me, let me ask y'all this Like in this day and age of, I wanna say like microwave wrap. You know what I'm saying? We're things that are so quick. What makes y'all put an emphasis on lyricism and the actual performance?

Speaker 2:

Well, that goes hand in hand. You know what I'm saying. So, even in the studio, you know, what I'm saying. Like for you to be able to perform your verse on stage, you should be able to one take it in the studio.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

It shouldn't be no punch hands.

Speaker 1:

I feel you, I feel you.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying and I don't have nothing against an artist that do that. But, it's just that when you do that, you are cutting out breaks, you're cutting out syllables, you're cutting into a lot of things that can affect you as a you know performing that same song. Yeah. So that's what I you know what I'm saying Really focus on, even when I'm writing the song.

Speaker 1:

Okay, you know what. I'm saying it's how you know, how will I?

Speaker 2:

also be able to perform this song. It's that discipline, yeah it's just the discipline. You gotta be able to know when you're gonna take breaths and all of that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, see, right there.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you're gonna be up there moving everything.

Speaker 4:

You know what I'm saying. So just to let you artists now, I can't have my son, I can, you good?

Speaker 1:

you. Good, you can get me down here.

Speaker 4:

Just to let you artists know it take it. Take for when you making it at home, you just can't write it in there and just sit on it. Man, rehearse that. Go over that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know what I'm saying. That should be huge.

Speaker 4:

What's impactful in this part of the song and that part of the song. You know what I'm saying. My man's came through and he was like man, look, we finna practice and I like that. I like that about the way he does it, that's what's up? That's what's up. My man's my brother. We finna practice as soon as he came in. We got dead to it.

Speaker 1:

All right, chy, we gotta take a break real quick and we gonna be right back and we talking with Spilla Chicago Gitter and my man Rico, and man, that's the Shits podcast. Man, hey, shout out to all the motherfuckers out there. Man that be at the crib writing bogus ass raps and then y'all bring it to the mic and then you spit the bogus ass raps over the vocals of the bogus ass raps. Hey, man, that's the Shits podcast. Man, it's the Shiiiits.

Speaker 7:

Get it, get it Right, and what is it? It's all about the shits. Either you the shit or you not. And when you the shit, you got the ism, you got the realism, whatever other words you wanna use and you put ism on it, you the shit of that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. We are now back at the Shits podcast, man, and we ain't here. I'ma say it right now, man, I'ma put the shit out here. We ain't here with some future Chicago motherfucking legends right now. Y'all Shit. That, my son, Real shit. You know what I'm saying, Straight up, yeah, son.

Speaker 1:

Y'all need to get in tune. Y'all need to get in tune, goddamnit, Get in tune. So let me ask y'all this man so unfortunately, Chicago has a bad reputation of not supporting its own, Unfortunately, right Well, it doesn't have the best reputation of supporting its own. Can y'all speak on the importance of not just supporting your fellow artists but also networking?

Speaker 2:

Go get it where you at.

Speaker 1:

Okay, the importance of networking for me. I feel like you ain't working, unless you're networking, because you know you can be working but you know it ain't really getting outside your bubble.

Speaker 5:

Right.

Speaker 1:

You need to. You know like expand what you're doing. You expand your reach when you work. You know, as a team.

Speaker 5:

I feel you.

Speaker 1:

You know you're active, like we doing and you get used to it.

Speaker 5:

Right.

Speaker 1:

And I think that's real important as an artist coming up, Even, you know, even if you establish I think that's important, you know what I'm saying. That's to keep the you know what I'm saying the meter jumping? Definitely. No, I feel you. I definitely agree.

Speaker 4:

It's definitely not no eye and team man. You know what I'm saying. When brothers can come together like the Black Panthers did, you know what I'm saying? It's our race, that's you gotta be careful with that.

Speaker 1:

You gotta be careful when you speak on that.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, let me slow down. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

I'm so weak. Get the weight on. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4:

It's a lot of crabbing the bucket action going on because the next man hating on the next man, and it shouldn't even be like that. You know what I'm saying Exactly Brothers coming together and we collectively work there. You know like I can get done. You know I don't see why Chicago shouldn't have a you know what I'm saying a big platform out here where we all get signed. You know, I felt like Kanye should have brought it. You know, and that's just my opinion.

Speaker 1:

No, I definitely feel you on that. I definitely feel you on that that Chicago should have a bigger platform and, depending on who you talk to, it's different reasons on why we don't have that. You see what I'm saying. Me personally, I just kind of feel like some people were too focused on getting their name on the list compared to getting their name on the chat. No, doubt you see what I'm saying.

Speaker 4:

I could do that. I could do that.

Speaker 1:

So it was like man, like the business should have been. The business should have been a little bit more on point compared to worrying about who the fuck was shouting you out. You know what I'm saying From other cities and shit like that.

Speaker 2:

And that's what we're trying to bring to the table. Man, like we get used to it. You know what I'm saying. Like that's what we've been doing. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 5:

We've been creating platforms for other artists to come out and perform you know what I'm saying For free. Yeah Saying, expose a talent.

Speaker 2:

You know what I'm saying. We rev them up because we know it's saying nowadays, social media is very important.

Speaker 5:

So we're doing what we can to help these people build a social media platforms everything you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

And that's what we all about as a unity man Like that's why we come together and we able to rock how we rock and we not. And there ain't no big eyes and little views here. You know what.

Speaker 1:

I'm saying Exactly.

Speaker 2:

Exactly Everybody on the same level and everybody bringing something to the table. So you know, and that's what we're doing. So it's a unity thing over here, man, we continue in the grow.

Speaker 1:

As it should be. How would y'all classify y'all music?

Speaker 2:

Man to be honest. I mean we just lyrical.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying. Ok, that works for me.

Speaker 2:

We lyrical. You know what I'm saying. So I mean you could put us in any type of genre if you want to. I mean we could bring anything to the table. I mean what?

Speaker 1:

Definitely versatile.

Speaker 2:

OK, we're very versatile, so at the end of the day it's just going to be lyrical. My music.

Speaker 1:

Personally, I call it street conscious. There you go.

Speaker 2:

I like that Street conscious.

Speaker 1:

Street shit up and down. This is shit you can take.

Speaker 5:

And you know what I'm saying yeah, Down.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I already said it, but they don't make you think about.

Speaker 1:

Something you can relate to, something you can relate to for sure, and I think that that's what we're missing right now. You know what I'm saying. I think that somewhere along the lines people got so caught up and, I guess, quote unquote, getting to the back that we forgot what the music was supposed to be doing. You know what I'm saying. Like the music was supposed to give you some type of feeling and make you listen to it and walk away with something you know like nowadays it's kind of feel like you got to be half a pill, a couple of pills, to get something away from this shit. So I mean, but that's just me, man, like you know I could be wrong, but that's just what I pick up on man.

Speaker 4:

Thank you, girl Sis though.

Speaker 1:

So also saying, man, that I was on Atlanta. How was that?

Speaker 2:

Man, that was dope man. They show love here and there. Like I said, that was roller coaster as well. We had a few moments, but overall it was a dope experience.

Speaker 1:

You know what?

Speaker 2:

I'm saying we performed Friday at the Mayan Club.

Speaker 1:

OK.

Speaker 2:

And then on Saturday we towed down to Diamonds Club.

Speaker 1:

Oh.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, it was a dope experience man. We all went out there.

Speaker 1:

We brought the whole team out there and it was dope, that's dope, that's dope as hell. Was that your first time going out there?

Speaker 2:

No, no, no, we didn't do that a few times, but collectively as we get used to it. That was the first time.

Speaker 1:

OK, ok, ok. Yeah, man, I personally love when people come together as a collective, because it made me think about the Dungeon families, the Wu-Tangs, the hieroglyphics, shit. I'm trying to feel so bad because I'm trying to think I'm from Chicago you know what I'm saying? Like, and that's so fucked up because I just really can't think of one From Chicago.

Speaker 1:

From Chicago, matt's crew Said it again, matt's crew out there at our west. That was bullshit. Damn. No elaborate, bro, because I don't know, you know what? No matter of fact, let me take it back. Nacrobats, nacrobats, nacrobats, that's way back, that's pucks cars. Who else Goddamn Get along gang? That was drunk uncle neocom, fuck Shit Network crew. That was us. Now you gotta get used to it.

Speaker 1:

Now you gotta get used to it. And guess what motherfuckers gotta get used to it, got it. You know what I'm saying. I like it, I like it, I like it, I like it a lot, kind of staring off track for a minute. What's your opinion on JD Pinkett and Will Smith's situation? She low down why you say that. I feel like in a way, she should be exposing them. They personal shit like that.

Speaker 2:

Thank you.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying. Then, on top of that, this is life. She's steady like fucking them up, like you steady jugging them, you know. Steady like that man gonna drop off a cliff or something.

Speaker 2:

But it's time for me. It's time for me step up and say something. Man, that's what I'm saying. I mean he gotta step up and say something.

Speaker 1:

You already said something, but the thing that give me, the thing that give me about it, is like I get it once you into a marriage. It's it's supposed to be till death. Do it till death, do us part. I think they kind of change when you fuck the son's best friend. You know I'm saying she kind of changed. Right you know, once you fuck the hell, oh no, it kind of changes.

Speaker 4:

But you gotta understand it. They knew what they was getting a self-entered, because they was already Into that lifestyle and I get it.

Speaker 1:

And if you are into that lifestyle at some point, like Chicago, get it. Was just saying you still got to hold my man down you know I'm saying you gotta be some integrity that right.

Speaker 6:

You see, I'm saying you still gotta hold me down.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm saying we know, if we know we in this lifestyle, and I'm saying we both fucking the neighbors. You know I'm saying don't just put, don't just embarrass me. You know both, both of us got to be put out there like that.

Speaker 4:

You see, I think it's for publicity. All time, you know how these yeah, you know, I'm saying all time like Ever decided to get married again. You, you got to know who your, your person, is that, that, that particular person that you want to that you want to settle down with end of the day. At the end of the day is just a title, because we was friends before this right.

Speaker 1:

Right. Well, some people were, some people were, some people wasn't. You know I'm saying I think that when you start to speak about the institution of marriage, that's two people that's getting to something together. So we should be right or die. You know I'm saying so, like I said why you just put my shit out there. You know I'm saying why you just embarrassing me. You know I'm saying and it kind of make me kind of look at buddy differently too, cuz I'm like you just taking this shit, bro. You know I'm saying like what the fuck she got on you anyway, man, we're gonna take a break real quick. Amen. Yo. Shout out to the motherfuckers out there. Man, that's swinging and Fucking. Help Like life's like. You know it's just podcast, man, it's the.

Speaker 5:

Speaker 1:

We're not back the shit's podcast man. We need to shoot the shit, start some shit. A picking up with shit left off and you know, just judging off this will Smith jay the picket thing won't be starting some shit, but it's all good, I ain't trippin Um they got a hell of a looking like pop. Let me ask y'all this, bro what's the? What's the what's the what's the most important thing that y'all have learned from somebody you didn't like? Hmm cannot to be like them, my man oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

That was on point.

Speaker 1:

I can't say no.

Speaker 2:

That was on point.

Speaker 1:

That was on point. And I asked that question, man, because I'm a, I'm a, I'm a believer, and you can learn from anybody. You know I'm saying, and sometimes, man, unfortunately, we learn from the motherfuckers that we don't want to be like.

Speaker 1:

You know I'm saying no doubt and it's like but you got to pay attention to shit. Yeah, you got it. You really got to pay attention to shit, man, like straight up. Um, if y'all found out that y'all birthdays was incorrect, right? If you found out that y'all birthdays was incorrect and you found out that you was ten years younger, would it make a difference?

Speaker 2:

Most definitely why I got more time. Okay time is awesome.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

I got way more time and I got the knowledge, what I have. Okay, you know how most people always say like oh man, I wish I can go back and know what I know today. Yeah that's exactly what that would be. You would just take advantage of that and yeah, and then I just look a little bit more into myself as far as, like, what my official sign is and how I really yeah, yeah, see how that all coincide with each other, because I'm a firm believer in that.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, but so y'all believe in astrology signs?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, sir. What sign are you?

Speaker 1:

I'm a lever, okay. What about you? I'm a Pisces? What about you, taurus? Okay.

Speaker 3:

I'm a Gemini.

Speaker 1:

Wrong.

Speaker 4:

When I tell the ladies I'm like man, fuck that side, shit, man we make. We make who we are. Yeah, at the end of the day we definitely make who we are. You know, I'm saying you can sit here and read something, but at the end of the day I'm gonna sit here. Oh he crazy, I ain't crazy, vimy, I'm a loyal stand-up guy. Okay, be there for my people. Oh no, I think we are crazy. Why you say that and some some world crazy.

Speaker 1:

So it makes us crazy. You know, you got a party environment. It's like it makes you just a little crazy to be able to stand the shit that we go through, because it's not a good point like this at first. No, no, no, no you got to get used to being fucked up a little bit.

Speaker 1:

Yeah that's a little crazy and it's interesting that you said it, man, because it made me think about Making me think about social media and the shit that we see on social media, how some people may say we have become Desensitized because you know, 10, 12 years ago it was, it was hard for you to see a month. Forget the ass with on In the, on the internet. You see, my first good day shit blew off on exactly.

Speaker 2:

Like wow man get that shit right.

Speaker 1:

You know, ain't really nothing and in light and to your point. It's kind of like you look at that and it is. It's concerning because it's become the norm. You know I'm saying like before you'll see that shit, they really fuck up your day. You know, now it's kind of like damn, just Nothing left. I got shot, you know, and and and this. That's some that's interesting because I think about bringing it back to like the whole music thing. As artists, you all are responsible for the medium that's supposed to either heal the people, you know I'm saying, from some of the shit that's going on. So how do you think y'all music Can help people if they going through some fuck that shit, or if they, if they do, feel like they Going crazy or some shit like that?

Speaker 4:

every, every song ain't the same and we ain't just pulling out, you know, and nobody talking about just killing. You know I'm saying right every track that feel to it. No from from to the ladies, or we get it on and popping up still long. We getting money and go get it. He got a lot of that too.

Speaker 4:

You know I'm saying Vibes, and you know I'm saying it's just. We can't put out the same type of music every song like I Hop in the kind. Just okay, I'm gonna pop this song and it's straight drill they can. That made me want to do something, maybe want to come see you, right, right. Popping something different from get used to it is it's different moves, is different vibes.

Speaker 2:

You know, I'm saying thanks, yeah, and now you know saying we so accessible with social media when you actually checking and with us. You know I'm saying and see what we really about you know, saying you'll see the positivity and see what we bring.

Speaker 6:

You know I'm saying yeah that's what we doing.

Speaker 2:

Like I said, we creating platforms for the artist.

Speaker 5:

You know I'm saying we doing clothes rise, we doing food drives, we give it back to the community, we going out and we speaking at schools and all of that you know.

Speaker 2:

I'm saying so yeah, we got it all it.

Speaker 4:

You know a whole real round thing. At the end of the day, we meant to us too.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm glad you said that, because those are that. I'm so glad you said that, man to the shortage.

Speaker 4:

Like I, I personally work with the shortage. I'm all. I'm on the low end. You know I'm all I'm on. 54 for me, you know you in here which was what's for basketball? We just won three championships. Oh yeah if six, seven, then a. Yeah yeah, we could have went state. We took site division and the local there you go. So just just to have that motion going.

Speaker 1:

That's broke, that's dope as fuck. For simple fact that, as as black man, it's. It's even more important and I don't care, nobody's. I'm not trying to be racist or anything like that.

Speaker 1:

As for black man, I think it's even more important to be that mentor and to be that person that's there, because for some of us, for some of us, we didn't have that shit. You know, I'm saying it was nobody there. You know I'm saying and then in the work, in the worst case scenario, it was a motherfucker there, but they was contributing to the delinquency. You see, I'm saying so. It was like so to have somebody there that's telling you and man, this the way you should go, or this the way you should move, chills, and when you ain't always gonna check that, like yeah, especially I was gonna check for that. So let me ask you this Do you think that there is mentorship in the music, especially coming from Chicago? Do you think there were people that reach back to the younger artists and do you think the younger artists are accepting that guidance Through?

Speaker 1:

the music or just like Through the music. Yeah, through the music. Honestly no, Some of the people that's on Through the people that's on not just the people that's on, but like the people that's been doing it for a while. Let's just say like you gotta, you gotta, show it. It's like hey, man, I heard y'all record. Man, I heard y'all, I seen y'all up in the club. Man, I'm trying to rhyme too. Do you think it's motherfuckers? That's saying I'm a lookout for them, even though I'm trying to get on too.

Speaker 4:

I'm gonna say yes and no.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

For the mainstream. You can see it a little bit before the hungry artists, the hungry artists within ourselves, you know, and everybody that's out here trying to get it on. I could definitely see it because I was working on I was on 87th and Greenwood called Yap Youth Advocate Program and the kids that I had they was kids that was killing and stealing and doing all type of things on the street right.

Speaker 5:

So they needed to get jobs.

Speaker 4:

And what I did was I got a studio and they came and worked for me. So they come work in the studio and get paid for that. We shot a video called Self Made.

Speaker 6:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

While we named it Self Made, they got paid for every hour that we shot that video and it was like man bro, that's dope Cause. We ain't never had nothing like that.

Speaker 5:

Wow.

Speaker 4:

Rock with you. You know what?

Speaker 1:

I'm saying, wow, that's love.

Speaker 4:

You put money in our pockets while we shooting a video.

Speaker 1:

That's love.

Speaker 4:

And that's why the song is called Self Made. You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

That's love bro.

Speaker 4:

We show love to the communities and we still doing it and we trying to push it so that these kids can see a better view of everything.

Speaker 5:

Like when.

Speaker 4:

I sat down with these kids. All they see is we want to do YouTube. You got to put your ducks in the road. They don't know how to do. They don't know how to do BMI's, they don't know how to do distro kids and stuff like that. So it's stuff to be taught out here that these kids need at the end of the day, and that's going to help them and develop them to go to the next level.

Speaker 1:

Okay, okay, chicago, get these boys Say something. No, go say something. Well, I feel that, man, and like, once again, I think that shit is truly important, man, because, as people that have been doing it longer, they have so much advice and knowledge that they can get back to the shorties and we'll take a break real quick and we come right back. Speaker 2:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1:

Is there anything else? Because the collective album is coming right.

Speaker 2:

Yes, sir.

Speaker 1:

OK, so when are the spoilers to drop?

Speaker 2:

We're going to drop that the first quarter. Ok 2024 is going to be the GU2I compilation album value one. Yes, sir, you know what I'm saying Coming real soon.

Speaker 1:

Yes, sir, who y'all got on the production.

Speaker 2:

I mean, we got our boy Lex Experience.

Speaker 4:

You know what I'm saying. He been rocking with the team for a minute.

Speaker 2:

Shout out to Lex, shout out to big Lex. But we're going to have a various lot of producers on the joint man it's probably going to be at least about five, six different producers on the joint.

Speaker 1:

OK, OK. What about y'all got some featured artists on there?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, we got our boy Big Ken folks.

Speaker 1:

Oh, Ken Fos.

Speaker 4:

What up Ken Fos. Shout out to Ken.

Speaker 2:

Fos, big Ken Fos, going to be on the joint. You know what I'm saying, of course, myself, rico, go get it going to be on there.

Speaker 1:

OK.

Speaker 2:

We're going to have some Doh Fetman artists on there as well.

Speaker 1:

OK.

Speaker 2:

And we got an event coming up December 16th the Pink Cipher December 16th.

Speaker 1:

Oh shit, that sounds good. Yeah, we're going to have 10. Sounds like a point or two. Go ahead though.

Speaker 2:

December 16th ladies, we're going to have 10 Doh. Female artists man, they're going to come out, they're going to do a cipher man, they're going to hospital Doh 16. But out of that, that sounds dope. Yeah and out of that group of 10, you know what I'm saying the top two, we're going to give them a feature on the joint.

Speaker 1:

Oh shit. So let me ask you all this man, what do y'all think? What do y'all think makes a dope female artist.

Speaker 4:

Man coming. Different man Well, you know it'd be lyrical Different. You know what I'm saying. I'm about staying in Rob and Pussy sucking dick. You know what I'm saying? Just do something different, right? Something different.

Speaker 1:

You know what?

Speaker 4:

I'm saying Come like Foxy Brown, a little bit better than that. You hear me, but it is some out here like that that slaying yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I done heard some, and they just need to put themselves out there. Some of them give up you know all.

Speaker 1:

They ain't feeling that. They didn't. You know what I'm saying. They just command, like they make you pay attention to straight day words yeah you know who I'm. Forget about what they look like, but even if they look right you know what I'm saying they ain't talking about sex yeah. Well, you know some old, you know op type shit. The one of the first people I think about when you said that bro is artist Freddie Farty. Yeah, yeah, I heard that music, bro. She from Chicago Dope as fuck.

Speaker 4:

No doubt, freddie, look up, shut up the Freddie Farty. Yeah, no doubt.

Speaker 1:

Dope as fuck. Yeah, man, I just like I listen to. I listen to all artists. You know what I'm saying. I try to give all artists a chance because I just love music. So you know, sometimes the game may be so over saturated with male artists so when a female artist come along, sometimes it's harder for them to stand out. You get what I'm saying. So I know, like Rico Rico, what you saying about. When you got females is talking about staying in motherfuckers and you have a female talking about robbing motherfuckers and killing motherfuckers and shit like that.

Speaker 7:

Honestly, bro, it'd be kind of hard for me to be like yeah yeah, because that's what they're doing, but deep in the net just putting them in the mind frame.

Speaker 4:

That that's what we need to be on. You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1:

Right.

Speaker 4:

That ain't what black women really stand on. So you know the Lord Hills and you know what I'm saying. The Shannas yeah. Shanna got there, Me and Eve. They was telling stories about life.

Speaker 5:

You know what I'm saying.

Speaker 4:

It was. It was all collective great epic music back in the day, Just hearing females come like that. The Amir X oh shit, I just love Amir X fat ass, if you really want to go back. We had Gangsta Boo. If you want to talk, that gangsta shit. But make it, make it not so known. But everybody want to keep it so simple.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Like lemonade and you shouldn't do it like that.

Speaker 1:

I was like, damn, lemonade is kind of simple. I used to make that shit with the real, like I used to get the real lemonade and then make it with the sugar in it. She's be too sweet. But I said, if you had to, if you had to say the top, the top four, the top four, chicago Female MCs, what would it be? Shana, are we going to order, are we? Yeah, we're going to order For the same Damn.

Speaker 2:

Just made it harder Shana. I go with the Brad first the Brad first I go with I go.

Speaker 4:

I got to go with Nooses bro First. Yes, Okay.

Speaker 2:

I got to go with Nooses bro, I want with.

Speaker 1:

Shana first Okay.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to go with the Brad first.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to put Shana Nooses, the Brad and what else.

Speaker 4:

I got to go with Nooses.

Speaker 1:

She hot I got one more, though I got Tifa, tifa was dope G. Dope, but somebody else Hold on. I tried to dance fucked up Out of the four females in Chicago. Fuck, I'm like I'm.

Speaker 4:

It's a mo.

Speaker 1:

If you want to go old school, you can go Ang 13. She's dope. She's on some straight hip hop shit. Damn Durth, I'm stuck. She's dope. You know, hey, but you know what, though? So that's crazy. That is that's crazy, because if I said four male MCs, mount Rushmore, so they got to be. You know, some of us who did some shit, they got to be my you mentioned. Shining all these other people's names.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, no, I feel you on that because person will be, because I'm like, because you know Shawna named this out, because Shawna can spit, bro Like to me. Hey, I love the brat, but I think Shawna is called it in the brat, you know, saying like real talk.

Speaker 2:

But the bread cold. You know saying I get the brat hookup prize because she been a ghost writer for a lot of people.

Speaker 1:

True that, true that, true that.

Speaker 2:

That's a lot of female, yeah, she responsible for a lot of other careers as well. One more, though.

Speaker 1:

It got to be one more man.

Speaker 4:

Shaq Khan is from the shot.

Speaker 1:

Shaq Khan is from the shot, Damn.

Speaker 5:

G.

Speaker 1:

Fuck it. No, I feel you. I feel you on that. That's, that's, that's dope shit. That's dope shit. What's the difference between an artist and an entertainer?

Speaker 4:

Artists gonna give you a feel. You're gonna give you life and you gonna be an entertainer at the same time. It's all collectively a one. You know I'm trying.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

Entertainer just gonna entertain.

Speaker 1:

Right. So they probably don't even write their own shit, they just out there.

Speaker 4:

No, I don't Damn near puppet Okay, I can't even say that because they was cold as hell back in the day. Little John, no, they entertainers.

Speaker 1:

That's true.

Speaker 4:

Versus TI. He was giving hip hop.

Speaker 5:

Expeditious Help on the way.

Speaker 1:

I better get used to it, man. Hey, man, look, I'm going to tell you just like this Y'all need to come see them perform straight up, because it's one thing for people to make dope records, it's another thing to see them perform that dope record and to have the crowd give that energy back that they given them. You know what I'm saying. So that's an experience. So it's one thing for somebody to make something that everybody can hear, but it's another thing for somebody to provide an experience. So that's what I got from these brothers and man. So at this point in time, it is the Gang portion of the show. So this week's game is, first of all, this game only happens on the shit's podcast, man. So if you see somebody else do that shit, slap shit out their ass, because they biting.

Speaker 1:

You know what I'm saying. Straight up, we're on board. Can I get a fold for fold? So this week's game is the fold for fold, so I'm not Wendy's, so don't try to sue it, motherfucker, straight up, basically what this is, amen, I'm going to give y'all a word, or I'm going to give y'all a phrase, and you got to respond with four words. Speaker 1:

But if your kid's school used to be a Walgreens or like a Jewel or like any kind of store, like any like department store, they probably bad as hell. You know what I'm saying? Like real shit, straight up. I knew the joke. I'm not saying they probably bad as hell. So I don't think that. Like, I think parents need to be really realistic and don't plan on like homecoming dances and like prom pictures and shit like that and like extracurricular sports activities, like football teams and basketball teams. The only team that your kid probably got at the school is a crisis prevention team, like straight up. So don't get it twisted. Don't start telling everybody that your kid go to a special school for, like, gifted kids, because they don't. It's a therapeutic high school. You know what I'm saying? You twig, I'm not telling them.

Speaker 2:

What about the kids that's in the back of jewels? What's the flap jewels? How they act.

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying, I'm not saying just make sure that you realistic about the expectations of the shorties, because if you not, then we all get. You know, we get confused. You know what I'm saying. And then you be on Instagram telling people that your kid's going on prom. They're not going to prom. Them kids don't go on prom, they don't, I'm sorry.
